The Winchester Royal Hotel has partnered up with Room to Reward, a charities’ charity that utilises empty hotel rooms to give back to those who make a difference.

Research shows that there are approximately 140,000 hotel rooms left empty every night in the UK and Room to Reward’s aim is it make use of these for what they call their ‘Hidden Heroes’. The charity acts as a facilitator for other charities to be able to reward their amazing staff and volunteers without the impact on their own budgets.

As part of the partnership, The Winchester Royal Hotel will offer several rooms throughout the year to the charities associated with Room to Reward at no cost. The nominated Hidden Hero from the charity will be treated to a relaxing two-night stay in Winchester with breakfast.

Room to Reward, based in Bournemouth, started in 2015 with the mantra: ‘Surely there’s a better use for these rooms than just going to waste?’. Since then, they’ve joined forces with over 130 charities in the UK and partnered with more than 180 hotels empowering that philosophy. The Winchester Royal Hotel is delighted to be the latest hotel to join Room to Reward.

Louis Rigney, General Manager at The Winchester Royal Hotel, said: “As soon as we heard about Room to Reward, we were keen to find out more. After meeting with the Director of the Charity, Adam Terpening, and learning about this fantastic idea, I was on board and keen for us to get involved.

“While we try to fill our hotel every night, with the best will in the world we know this just isn’t going to happen 365 days of the year. So, what better way to use the empty rooms than with offering them free of charge to people working tirelessly for various charities.

“These hidden heroes constantly put others before themselves and deserve to be treated to a bit of luxury once in a while. We can’t wait to welcome some of them to the Winchester Royal Hotel to do exactly that.”

Adam Terpening, Director of the Room to Reward,  said: “We are delighted to welcome the Winchester Royal Hotel to the Room to Reward journey. Our charity is entirely dependent on the wonderful generosity of our hotel partners. The fantastic support of Louis and team will enable us to say ‘thank you’ and give back to more Hidden Heroes.”

Rooms to Reward recently reached £120,000 of donated stays with the aim of surpassing £1million. Find out more about the Room to Reward on their website.
