Louis Rigney, General Manager of the Winchester Royal Hotel, will be back in the boxing ring in December raising more money for charity.
Following a similar event last year, which he raised more than £700 for Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, Louis is throwing his hat into the ring again with the charity this time being Dorset Mind.
Dorset Mind is a local mental health charity that supports people with mental health difficulties. Founded in 1946, they educate, challenge stigma and provide support towards peoples’ well-being and recovery towards positive mental health.
Louis Rigney, who won last year’s bout by technical knockout, is looking forward to challenging himself in the ring again. He said: “Last year’s event was so good for so many reasons. First and foremost, the money we raised for charity was fantastic, but I really enjoyed it too. So much so that I’ve been keeping fit and attending the boxing sessions most weeks since. So, when the opportunity arose to do it all again, I couldn’t turn it down.
“Dorset Mind are a fantastic charity, again with a very local focus. Mental health is a hot topic at the moment with serious consequences and can affect anyone at any time. The work that Dorset Mind are doing is saving lives, so I’m obviously pleased to have the chance to contribute in raising some much-needed money for them.”
The white-collar charity boxing match is taking place on Saturday 1 December at the O2 Academy Bournemouth. The event is hosted by Vantage Sporting Group who take participants of ranging abilities and put them on an eight-week training course to prepare them for the big night. ‘Fighters’ will be matched on ability levels and will go head-to-head in the ring.
Louis added: “The time and effort the coaches at Fit2box put in is superb – they prepare us like pro boxers and even on the night it feels like a professional bout with walk-out music and everything.
“While I can’t thank everyone enough who supported me last year, I will be asking for donations again… it’s for a very worthy cause and one I’m prepared to fight for!”
