Team members from two sister hotels in Winchester, the Holiday Inn Winchester and the Winchester Royal Hotel have raised more than £300 in a charity cycle challenge.

The two hotels went head-to-head in the gym at the Holiday Inn Winchester’s ANA Spa to see who could cycle the furthest distance in two hours.

After a competitive but friendly race, the two teams finished neck and neck with the result declared a draw after both cycled an impressive 62 kilometres. So far, £320 has been raised for the Hospitality Action charity.

Hospitality Action offers vital assistant to the millions of people who work or have worked in the hospitality sector in the UK. Established in 1837, but more widely recognised than ever since the Coronavirus pandemic that affected hospitality so heavily, Hospitality Action offer a range of support for physical and mental illnesses, as well as assistance for those with financial problems within the industry. Louis Rigney, Cluster General Manager for both hotels praised the staff who participated and the money they’ve raised. He said: “While many industries have been affected, there’s no doubt that the hospitality industry has been hit particularly hard during the last 18 months. The fantastic work that Hospitality Action do has helped so many people during that time.

“It was great to see the two teams coming together for such a worthy cause. The challenge was all done in extremely good spirits, albeit quite competitively, but it was great fun and for a very worthy goal. So, a big well done to everyone who got involved.”

All donations are welcome and can still be made via the dedicated Winchester Royal vs Holiday Inn Winchester JustGiving fundraising page.
