Winchester City Museum

Visit the Winchester City Museum where there is so much to discover! Walk through the three galleries which take you on a journey of Winchester’s past.

Begin from its origins as a prehistoric trading centre and a Roman capital, to the decline in the Middle Ages right through to the present day. The highlights of this museum include Roman mosaics, Anglo-Saxon jewellery, items owned by Jane Austen, the famous 18th Century English novelist and reconstructed Victorian and Edwardian High Street Shops.

There is plenty to see and learn and with free admission, it is a great place to visit when coming to the historic-city of Winchester. It’s also a great family day out with lots of activities! Become an archaeologist and have a go at sorting artefacts. Make a small brass rubbing and colour in an Anglo-Saxon pot design. Plus, they have plenty of children’s quizzes to keep them entertained.

Get your camera ready and get dressed up like a Roman, a Saxon a Victorian or even an Edwardian!

Afterwards, you can pop into the Gift Shop which has a selection of local Hampshire Fare produce, and the perfect souvenir to take home!
